After a full year of beta testing, WPCloud is proud to offer our clients several failover options as a service add-on.

Failovers provide an additional layer of redundancy in the case of a major data centre failure or geographical disaster.

WPCloud failover sites are true clones of your live site, fully functional & ready to serve from isolated data centres. If your live site is hosted in Vancouver, your failover would be hosted in Montreal or Toronto. If your site is hosted in Montreal or Toronto, your failover would be hosted in Vancouver.

These data centres are isolated by geography, power sources & networks, which reduces any overlap in the case of a disaster.

1. SCHEDULED CLONE

Your live site will be cloned hourly, daily or weekly to a fully functional standby server. The standby server will be located in a different Province than your live server, providing you with a fully functional cloned site in the event of a disaster in your live server data centre.

In the event of an emergency, your A record IP would need to be manually changed with your DNS provider or IT team.

2. HIGH AVAILABILITY AUTOMATED FAILOVER SYSTEM (WPCloud Always UP)

For those that require an automated, high availability failover system, our WPCloud Always UP system is the solution to near 100% uptime.

Your live site will be cloned hourly, daily or weekly to a fully functional standby server. The standby server will be located in a different Province than your live server, providing you with a fully functional cloned site in the event of a disaster in your live server data centre.

The automated failover system uses an independent 3rd party monitoring system that monitors your site every 20 seconds from 3 different locations.

In the event of a failure, the system will automatically direct your DNS to the failover server, which has your cloned site ready to serve. Once the live server issue is resolved, the system will automatically point your site back to the live server. This system allows your site to have almost 100% uptime, with zero manual intervention. The monitoring & failover system is fully automated.

Please note that this system requires your site to use our managed DNS.
